fun at the director's cup

http://directorscup.lifeasfiction.com/

soo much fun

Richard Fleischer (The Narrow Margin) vs Claire Denis (Friday Night) [I voted Friday Night]

Fleischer wins 26-16... not dissapointed Narrow Margin is amazing but sad for Denis' loss... I was completely blown away when I saw Friday Night for the first time not too long ago.

Satyajit Ray (Distant Thunder) vs Carl Theodor Dreyer (Vampyr) [I voted Vampyr]

42 - 19 in favor of Ray... Not dissapointed with the results although I do believe Vampyr is the better film, Distant Thunder is still a magnificent film.

Krzysztof Kieślowski (Camera Buff) vs Peter Watkins (The War Game) [I voted Camera Buff]

29-28, War Game wins in an extremely close match... Sad to see Kiesklowski lose, I thought Camera Buff was a masterpiece. Still not mad that War Game won, it is an important film and Watkins' is doing something very interesting with the documentary genre with it.. &the opening shot is amazing.

Agnès Varda (Salut les Cubains) vs Shūji Terayama (Farewell To the Ark) [I voted Farewell To the Ark]

23-22 for Varda. I voted for Terayama because I think Farewell to the Ark is an insane adaptation of 100 Years of Solitude but how could I be mad that Varda won? & Salut les Cubains is beautiful

Éric Rohmer (Pauline at the Beach) vs Carlos Reygadas (Silent Light) [I voted Silent Light]

Rohmer has a healthy lead as of right now.. The toughest choice I've made so far! I really didn't want to vote against Pauline at the Beach because Rohmer is one of my favorite auteurs and Pauline at the Beach is almost one of his best efforts but when I voted Reygadas was losing by so much and I just recently saw Silent Light and was so moved by it that I had to give him my vote.

last time in this car...

i remember all the waste.
how these beasts have generated waste,
the waste we live in,
the dreams we believe,
the waste.
i remember talking to him.
i had recognized his suit,
he had been lying down for three days and proceeded to mistake men for animals.

Die, Die, Die
he continued to yell at all the animals.
You are all the same.

Les cousins (1959)

the fluidity of the camera is beautiful, renoir and bazin's influence works wonders for this perfect chabrol effort.
